Heal, Home, Hmmm…’
“Heal, Home, Hmmm is a new sculptural pavilion by artist Roo Dhissou, commissioned by the V&A for London Design Festival 2025. Made using clay excavated from HS2 sites and traditional mud building techniques, the work explores how access, care, and environmental responsibility can shape the structures we build, both physically and socially. The pavilion will be accompanied by performance, sound, and public programming.
Heal, Home, Hmmm was co-designed by artist Roo Dhissou with Intervention Architecture, built using reclaimed HS2 clay from Rescued Clay, and features a sound installation created in collaboration with sound artist Oliver Romoff.”
Roo approached me to create a sound installation for Heal, Home, Hmmm with a view to imbue the pavillion with breath, vibrations and a life of its own.
As long time collaborators, the creative process was as organic as the materials of the structure itself.
The composition consists of a bed of field recording, creative production techniques, textural effects, vocal statements and live instruments from both Roo and I.
Guiding questions were recorded as vocals alongside live taus playing from Roo, intended as spiritual responses to each question.
51 questions and and 51 taus responses were created in total before the soundscape was included.
Elements used - Taus (2 Locations), Vocal, Tongue Drum, iTabla, Field Recording, Creative Production Techniques, Textural effects
